Hi, with a custom theme simply use the theme options file (are you on version 3?) to add the options you need for your specific theme.

You need to chose if you want a single or double opt in. With double opt in the confirmation messages is shown, with single directly the welcome message.

You should already have a welcome page, you can just configure a wordpress page to display the subscription messages. See the subscription steps panel.

Hi, I think the problem is about the custom template that extracts the posts. Probably the tremplate uses the_content() function (or similar) and newsletter is triggered by the_content() called on each post listed.

Why you don’t block the single posts adding on content locking feature their categories and leave the main page which lists the contents free?

Without shortcode is not possible. The shortcodes do not work on your site?

You can set a specific page for each subscription step, if you want. But shortcodes make the life really easier.

Actually there is no option on search to limit the reults to a list, but you can try an export for a specific list. I’ll add that filter on next release, if possible.

You should verify in WordPress general setting if the urls are the right ones. Then check the urls inside the welcome message (or where the unsubscription link is) to verify if they have still the old format.

The newsletter messages are the subscription/unsubscription/profile editing message not thre “newsletters”.

Hi, you really should ask the provider since that call works on other blogs, so it should be a block set by your provider or an apache protection module or with rules inside the .htaccess.

If you want me to try to find the problem, I need at least an ftp access.

So your cron is not working. Notification for new subscribers, new comments, forum posts are “real time” not schedules. And the fact that your future posts are not published it means the cron is not working,

Can be a theme problem, maybe the theme does something wrong.

Please, do not try to change the theme, since some important configuration of widget may be lost.

Can you send the the access to your blog in my private email: stefano@satollo.net?

Actually I have no time to learn how the captcha plugin works, eventually you can code a custom form (there are instruction on this site).

If the file is the original, there should be a plugin which does something during the cron call, maybe blocking it.

    If you surf:

    http://www.hippressurecooking.com/wp-cron.php

you can see a “zero”. Try to disable the newsletter and if the call returns something different we met a Newsletter possible problem. If still a zero is displayed there should be something else.

Did you install other plugins recently?

But the wp-cron is still active? Did you setup an external cron? And is working?

The sent 0/xxx is really strange since the counter is only incremented. That value was before reporting the right number?

There is a change that a database error can block the newsletter on first run and so the delivery engine wrongly set it as sent. So if you’re sure no email have been sent, it’s probably this case and the newsletter must be resent.

Do you have the logging active? If so the log files on wp-content/logs/newsletter/… can be of help to understand the problem. You can send it to me at stefano@satollo.net.

Actually on old feed by mail there was an option to select the “last run”: 1 day, 2 days, 5 days, 10 days ago just to make test… bu it was a confusing options so I decided to remove it…

    Stefano.

in reply to: Feed by mail: Testmail with $last_run allways -1 #8333
    Stefano
    Keymaster

Yes, it’s reasonable to use the last run, even if on first installation the test is used to see “how generally the email will look like”.

Once a test looks correct with a mix of new and old posts, you’ll know the emails will be composed correctly.

    Stefano.

in reply to: Feed by mail: Testmail with $last_run allways -1 #8331
    Stefano
    Keymaster

Hi, I found out and it’s an error on the post list split. The test is called from the index.php file passing zero instead of -1. -1 has been introduced to solve the problem for the first run.

So the code on index.php should be changed on line 73.

The is the theme, actually, that detect a -1 on last run and splits the post in half and half, but this behaviour will be moved to the general split function of WordPress.

Note that the test feature as described is recent so not all theme are doing the right thing.

I’ll load a new version of feed extension tonight.

More, apart this issue, advise your customer that email will have always a different layout than tested since the new posts can be from 1 to max.

    Stefano.

in reply to: Feed by mail: Testmail with $last_run allways -1 #8321
    Stefano

Yes, probably it’s a better idea than using -1. But -1 should produce half posts as new and half posts as old, which is good to test a theme.

Anyway you should code your own theme and ignore that extra content (it has been removed on new version).

Let me know the version you’re running. If you want, using the free version with feed by mail module, a custom theme can have it’s own set of option. Of course if the extra content is one and you don’t need to change it, it would be simple to code it directly inside the theme.

Or you force the form post to be ajax and listen for answer and show the answer on a modal window, or you should open a model with an iframe inside with a specific id, and force the form to target that id so the subscription “action” will run through the iframe and the message will be shown there. Then you can twick the message with a custom url, for example.

Ask the provider to disable the mod_safe module of apache as well.

If one of those operations work, we can try to find why those protection are triggered.

BTW it’s not the first time this happens and every time was a worng detection of “unsecure traffic” by one of those plugins.

Hi, but on feed by mail how do you set the feed by mail service activation? Forced? If you force or disable it the check box should not appear.

If the module is disabled the on subscription setting is still respected (you can disable the module just to avoid that email are sent but you can still offer the feed by mail service opt in). See the notes under the “on subscription” settings.

Does the module have a different behavior?

Hi I’ll check tonight the problem of the check boxes shown even with disabled modules, probably it’s a bug.

About the feed by mail check box shown on subscription form, you should be able to change the display setting from the feed by mail panel (you should be able to set if forced to all users, or shown as an option).

Anyway I’ll check even this thing. What feed by mail version are you using?

If you’re using your own theme, you should update them starting from the example code of the default theme. Yours probably works, but the code it’s simpler on using the new format.

About subscribers’ migration, you means you are moving them to another blog? If the blog is the same, no migration is needed, all plugin’s versions uses the same tables on the database.

The subscribers do not need to be migrated, the plugins are compatible each others (version pro, 3.0, 2.5 and so on).

If you’re using the feed by mail of newsletter pro, just wait some more time until the themes inside the module for the version 3.0 are complete.

    Stefano.

Hi, if you are worried about the limit on emails per hours, the BCC does not solve, usually, the problem. An email with 2 address produces on the first mail server two distinct deliveries and so it counts for two.

More, sending an email in with BCC does not permit to track the user activity on that email, add the user-specific unsubscription link and so on.

Hence Newsletter cannot work with BCC.

Hi I see a problem not strictly connected to feed by mail: the delivery engine is shutted down. Try to deactivate and reactivate the plugin.

About the followup, do you have some subscribers active on followup?

Did you change the neutral.css of the plugin? Upgrades delete every file and reinstall the whole package.

You should add the CSS to your theme (or user a plugin like header and footer to add them to the head of the page).

    The page is here: https://www.thenewsletterplugin.com/plugins/newsletter/newsletter-delivery-engine.

About GoDaddy they are very limited about emails, and as has been reported by user they don’t allow connections to external SMTP (which is very bad IMHO).

I missed to answer the second question. The newsletter check box is added using the standard way WordPress makes available, so every plugin preserving that behavious should work with newsletter.

    Eventually let me know.

    Found, there is bug! Grrrr!

By now, choose the option to show the newsletter subscription check box already checked (actually this should be right way to offer a subscription).

    ASAP I’ll release a patch.

The feature has three options: force the subscription, show it as an option and show it as an option already checked.

Probably the “forced” mode is not working as supposed, I’m checking the code right now.

You should modify the file theme.php of the theme you are using. Take a look to this page.

But did you set that options at which value? Forced subscription?

Hi, the module will be published shortly (it depends on version 3.2.2 of Newsletter I I was required to publish the plugin before the module).

You need to change the theme (better, create a new one for you) and on get_posts() call add the filter “post_type=>’you type'”.

Hi, can you write me at stefano@satollo.net? I’ll send you an updated diagnostic panel that will display the installed schedules.

Another small thing: you should force an upgrade if you’re testing the cron, since newsletter install it only on activation. You can force an upgrade from the diagnostic panel or deactivating and reactivating it.

The problem on the admin side is an apache mod_security fault that confuses a cookie with a sql injection. See here: https://www.thenewsletterplugin.com/apache-mod_security-and-newsletter-and-block-access-error.

About the cron: Newsletter register it’s own cron type that should fire every 5 minutes. If that cron is, for any reason, disabled by other plugin it may not work. It happened in the past with some plugin.

Can you send me the list of plugin you’re using?

Try to install the plugin wp control plugin which lists the scheduled task and the available shedulers.
