Hey,
has anybody else gotten a load of fake newsletter subscribers since the end of October/beginning of November? I got like 50 new fake subscribers per day – they are all not confirmed but still….. same with the comments on the blog. They all have nonsense names like email: jjt@inhabitdsgn.com Name: ydfmsyufzx or Email: gmcawley@hotmail.com Name: gsxrgdxrqh
Is there a way to deter them from trying to subscribe to the newsletter? Any help appreciated….
an increase of fake subscriptions may depend on a lot of factors but still, it needs to be taken care of. About comments: the golden rule is, if you don’t use them, deactivate them. There’s simple snippets that do that. If you use comments, be sure to put in place some antispam tools such as Captcha or anything else.
We also had those! All from these Netherlands and Russian IP addresses. I deleted all of them *by hand* and they re-subscribed! All of the anti-bot settings we can activate are already activated. So annoying!
It makes me wish it would be easier to manage subscribers according to IP addresses cause it’s been quite a time consuming mess. @Michael, do you think it could be a fair feature request?
I enable some brand of ReCaptcha on all my clients’ sites. I say “some brand” because depending on theme and other factors on the site I will usually use Cloudflare’s Turnstile unless there is a conflict. I’m now using HCaptcha in those cases because I am finding more reliable.
