Hi, I have installed the Newsletter plugin, addons manager and it’s “Import and Export” plugin.

In Settings -> General settings -> General -> Settings:
A sender email address and a sender name is configured.

I have successfully send test e-mails and a newsletter.

However, all of the send mails, do not use the sender name entered in the settings. Instead users see the sender name “nyhedsbrev” which is the translation of “newsletter”.

How do I get the send mails, those end user/recipients see, to use the sender name I have configured?

Just received, thanks. I can confirm that the email address is showing, not the sender name. Are you sending using an external Smtp service?

Well, there is no SMTP plugin installed, so WordPress uses the server’s functions to send mail.

When mails are generated by another plugin, it simply uses the sender name “WordPress”.

That’s correct, it’s the default WordPress sender name for service emails. So we know it’s not an issue on your email client. Try to change sender name and save again, then perform another test send. Also flush cache if you have a caching system in place (I don’t believe this helps but you never know).

Okay, I have changed the sender name in /wp-admin/admin.php?page=newsletter_main_main and send another test mail. Unfortunately, nothing has changed 🙁

Hi, if the sender name is changed, it is changed by another plugin or by the email server. The sender name “WordPress” is the standard send name set by WP, but we change it when sending an email.
Please go to the Newsletter/Help/Delivery page and check on bottom of that page the listed filters: what do you see?

    Stefano.

Hi, please Makro, can you send a new test email from Help/Delivery to our test email address test@thenewsletterplugin.com so we can analyse the email source and try to detect what’s happening in your site?

    Thank you!

    Hi Stefano.

    There are two filter boxes:

Filters applied to WP mailing system (phpmailer_init)
    None.

Filters applied to WP mailing system (pre_wp_mail)
    None.

Hi, the test email is ok, but there is no sender name, it seems stripped away. A question:

Does the sender name you set on Newsletter/Settings contain accented/special characters? What about if you simply set it to something simple like “Newsletter”?

I’m checking for possible recent bugs on our side, since you said other emails are delivered with the “WordPress” name, it should be something related to the sender name.
Other emails should be delivered with wordpress@[domain], since that is the default address “built” by WP, is that correct?

SenderName was set to “DanskeMotorCyklister”, but I have just changed it and resend to your test mail.

Actually, right now, after sending a test mail, I notice the filters has changed. Now it says:

Filters applied to WP mailing system (phpmailer_init)
    [100] NewsletterDefaultMailer::fix_mailer

Hi, that’s our filter, it’s ok. But it’s still missing the name.
    Some tests:
    1. set the sender email of the Newsletter to wordpress@domain… (try to send an email from another plugin to see the address set automatically by WP, for example, you can use the “send reset link” on a wp user with an email address you can read
    2. create a wp user test@thenewsletterplugin.com and use the send reset link so I can check what’s coming directly from WP

I looked at our code, I cannot find something that could strip out the sender name, but I need to setup a “clean” test dumping the internal PHPMailer variables.

The nyhedsbrev@ is a real mailbox or just a name without a mailbox associated? And wordpress@ if a real mailbox?

Okay, so I changed the sender mail to wordpress@domain…
Now test mails are sent from that address, but what’s more interesting, now the sender name is wordpress. I sent a testmail to your test mailbox as well.

There is a mailbox for nyhedsbrev@domain… but not for wordpress@domain…

I already have another plugin that sends mails, those are always from wordpress@domain… (not configurable).

I have created a WP user for you. You should have received a default WP welcome mail.

Hi, the emails I’ve generated with my account do not come with the “WordPress” name, even though they’re missing the name.
Only the provider can check those problems; if there are no filters on WP mailing functionality, we cannot detect.
