problem to overwrite a register

Hi master,
I tried to register with name and email and everything worked properly (including welcome messages and confirmation)
I tried to register again by putting the same email and changing the name. however, the system did not indicate to me that the e-mail already exists and has overwritten the registration.
I would rather have a warning and it was not possible to overwrite it.
I can not understand how I should do
