ParticipantHello The Newsletter Team,
The Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante) recently issued binding guidelines on the use of tracking pixels in emails (Provvedimento 17 April 2026, no. 284, doc. web no. 10241943), with a compliance deadline of 28 October 2026.
One of the key new requirements is that a subscriber who has consented to the newsletter must be able to keep their subscription active while opting out of open/click tracking. In practice this means the platform should be able to send the same campaign in two streams: one with the tracking pixel and tracked links, and one without, depending on each subscriber’s individual preference.
My question: does The Newsletter Plugin currently support disabling open/click tracking at the individual subscriber level (not only per single campaign or globally)? For example, a subscriber field or list segment that suppresses the tracking pixel and link rewriting for that recipient.
If it’s not currently available, is anything like this on the roadmap? Even a workaround (e.g. a custom field controlling pixel insertion via conditional content) would be very helpful to know about.
Thank you for your time.

ParticipantHello,
Thank you for raising this important question and for referencing the updated guidance from the Italian Data Protection Authority.
At the moment, The Newsletter Plugin does not provide a built-in option to disable open and click tracking on a per-subscriber basis. Tracking can generally be configured globally or at the campaign level, but not individually for recipients through a subscriber preference.
Given the upcoming compliance requirements, this would be a valuable feature. As a temporary workaround, you could consider creating separate audience segments and sending tracked and non-tracked versions of the same campaign, although this still requires manual management.
If per-subscriber tracking preferences are not yet on the roadmap, it would be a worthwhile feature request, as it would help users meet evolving privacy regulations while allowing subscribers to remain on mailing lists without being tracked.
Hopefully, the development team can share whether this functionality is planned for a future release.

KeymasterHello,
we’re actively monitoring and testing various approaches for these matters. I’ll update this thread once we’ll release an updated version of Newsletter which will address these important points.
