Not possible to change apperance of new widget

Dear team,
since one of the last updates the newsletter subscription widget looks different. I’ve tried to make it match my site’s layout again, but unfortunately it uses a css file from inside the plugin directory: /wp-content/plugins/newsletter/subscription/style.css
That css is full of “!important” statements (bad style), so it’s basically nearly impossible to change the styling from the theme’s main css.

Changing it directly in /wp-content/plugins/newsletter/subscription/style.css is no option, since this file will overwrite with any future plugin update.

Please let me know, what to do!

This problem is still present in version 5.4.7 in 2018. The biggest problem is that it totally affects the site’s performance. This can be seen in gtmetrix.com and pingdom.com among others.
