“Block rendering failed” when trying to add a images to gallery block

I am suddenly getting a “Block rendering failed” message when I try to add an image to the gallery (in extended composer blocks). I can’t update the add on because my license has expired, but I thought they were supposed to continue working! Is there any way to debug this?
