Apologies if this has been covered, I did several searches and didn’t find specific answers. My main goal here is to overcome the 500 emails/hr limit of HostGator, by using SendGrid. What I am unsure of is how to configure Newsletter correctly.

I’m running WP 4.2.2, on PHP 5.2. Therefore, I can’t use the official SendGrid plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/sendgrid-email-delivery-simplified/) since it requires PHP 5.3. Instead I am using the WP SendGrid plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-sendgrid/).

In Newsletter Configuration > SMTP, I currently have SMTP enabled. I’m able to send test emails either way, and they come through as sent via SendGrid.

    1. Does it matter whether I have SMTP enabled/disabled in Newsletter config? And if I enable it, do I even need the WP SendGrid plugin?

    2. By using SendGrid, will my newsletter sends still be limited by whatever is set in the Delivery Speed tab in Newsletter config?

    3. What’s the difference between the official SendGrid plugin (linked above) and the Newsletter one (https://www.thenewsletterplugin.com/plugins/newsletter/sendgrid-module)?

    thanks!

Newsletter sends emails on its own, so just configure the sendgrid smtp option in the main newsletter config. Nothing else is needed.

Thanks Stefano! Great plugin btw. What about delivery speed, does using SendGrid mean that HostGator limits don’t apply?

Of course. Limits are imposed by who send the emails, your case SendGrid.
