Newletter does not send emails

I am using WordPress 3.5.1. My hoster is 1and1.

I have installed the Newsletter plugin. The test does not work. It shows the following message:

SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused (111)
The following From address failed: newsletter@trekpyrenees.com

The configuration of Newletter is the following:

– Enable external SMTP: Si
– SMTP host: smtp.1and1.es  Port: 25   ‘No secure protocol’
– Authentication. User: newsletter@trekpyrenees.com Password: xxxxx
– Sender email address: newsletter@trekpyrenees.com

My domain is trekpyrenees.com  I have sent an email to the hoster. Its answer is
To be able to send emails from a PHP application (like WordPress), in 1and1, you should use the function phpmail/sendmail.

Therefore, my question now is “Does the Newsletter plugin use this function?”

So, you just need to disable the SMTP.

Hello again

I have sent a test email to myself, using WordPress. I have received the email:

This is a simple test email sent directly with the WordPress mailing functionality
in the same way WordPress sends notifications of new comment or registered users.

This email is in pure text format and the sender should be wordpress@youdomain.tld (but it can be forced to be different with specific plugins.

I tell you that in case it can help you.

It’s on, you should made a test with the second test button to check if newsletter is able to send emails, too.

I’ve just made the test. It works. In fact, the program works ok, despite the TEST goes on showing an error.

Therefore, I do not know why the Test does not work, but the program works OK.
