    HI,

    trying to use mandrill as smtp server.
    In configuration->smtp i set all right info, then try to send a test mail.
    my hosting provider tells port 564 and 25 are open.

    With port 465 and ssl, i receive an error:
    SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)
    <br />The following From address failed: info@michelecremaschi.it

    with port 25 and no secure protocol, i get:
    SMTP server error: Please turn on SMTP Authentication in your mail client. 550-rhea.thewebhostserver.com (michelecremaschi.it) [37.26.106.189]:49988 is 550 not permitted to relay through this server without authentication.

    Any hints?

    The first error seems due to your provicer blocking the port 465. The second, relay denied, seems you’re are connecting to the server without the username and passoword. Try port 25 with TLS eventually.

    If i buy the mandrill plugin, will it work as it uses mandrill api, or it’s just a SMTP based plugin – so it’ll fail if my server has such problems?

    My provider says that they doesn’t support SSL on mail.
    using TLS on port 25 i receive this error. Ideas?

    Hi, mandrill is used only as SMTP. Your provider doesn’t need to support anything, only to let you connect to and external server on port 465 (for example).

    So, what’s the difference between mandrill plugin and SMTP tab already present in the free version??

    The plugin retrieves even the bounces.
