    Hi Folks

    I’m a brand new Newsletter user and just set it up on my site. However, the test Email times out and fails to send, although the “Send direct from WordPress” works absolutely fine. I’m using SMTP and have tried both port 25 and 587 but both give the same error:

    Array
    (
    [type] => 2
    [message] => stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to ssl://mailserver.tgis.co.uk:25 (Connection timed out)
    [file] => /home/webdomain/public_html/wp-includes/class-smtp.php
    [line] => 209
    )

    If I look at the log file it simply says:

    16-03-2015 22:46:55 – ERROR – 59.3 MB – mail> SMTP connect() failed.

    Not sure what the 59.3 MB means…?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers
    Chris

    Looking at the error message it says “unable to connect” so you have configured an smtp but your blog cannot connect to it. You should report this error to your provider or check the smtp setting maybe the SSL on the port 25 is not correct.

    The “connection timeout” text in the report means your provider is blocking the outgoing connection to google. Try to ask them. Are you on godaddy?

    The only solution for this is to ask your provider to open a certain port that will allows to connect on SMTP server for you to send and receive emails directly on newsletters.. By default, this should be opened at port 25 and 587, if this is controlled and block then it is your provider limits this features. In my case however I am using third party direct mail service instead and none of this technical issues that gives me a problem.
