I am trying to vet a good option for a client needing the following:

– page on website with a weekly update
– weekly update will be compilation from different authors all compiled together onto one newsletter/page
– newsletter that is created can also be emailed out to subscriber list in email format
– visitors can subscribe to list

Other options like visual appealing layouts etc.. would be good but the above is the main thing I am looking for. It is kind of a newsletter post and email all in one.

Can the newsletter plugin do this or something else someone can steer me towards?

This plugin is made to build and send newsletter. You can create them manually or automatically with an extension. So probably it can help, but you should install it (it is free) and check if the theme system let you to create a theme which satisfy your customer needs.
