AHA! Also, please add the ability to select special post-types to one of the blocks and choose whether you want just the title, or plus the image or plus the description (like the “default”) newsletter. I want to port the latest 10 forum topics automatically – without always copying and pasting the links manually!

    Buon venerdi!!!

AH… OK, I sent out a test newsletter out and I got it. It’s working!!! What made me think that it wasn’t working was that I sent out a “test email” from the SMTP setting screen.

Is there some other place where I can send out a test e-mail without having to create a test newsletter and sending it to the “test subscribers”?

No I manually create each of these newsletters from Newsletter>Newsletters. I click COPY from the last newsletter, edit that and send.

Ciao Stefano, my web host found the solution. Php was up-graded a couple of weeks ago and the default php.ini was causing problems. The re-named my local file to php.ini.back and raised the server memory limit to 600 MB.

They still got some errors when sending a test e-mails…

They changed the SMTP port to 25 and that seemed to solve it.

    Ciao,

P.S. The anti-spam messages are apparently default php messages – caused by the upgrade- the host was not actively or purposely limiting the mails.

I added the xx’s in the email addresses. When I force the delivery engine trigger, the newsletter sending count only goes up by one. And this is what is logged….

Great, THANKS for the detailed instructions and screen shot. It was set to “default” and I switched it to 8-bit now so at least this way I’ll see if my iphone-reading users will be able to finally read the e-mail.

revtrev, can you be more specific with how you fixed it? I’m getting the same reports from my subscribers who read the newsletter on iphone (gobbletygook instead of html or text version).

OK, I solve it. I was clicking on the plain text tab. I started typing and freaking out before I did a through investigation.

    Whew!

    Buona Domenica!!

P.S. The upgrade was still “weird” but it didn’t appear to break anything.

Airadine, I solved this problem (and lots of others) by setting my php memory limit to the highest that my host will allow (that would be in your php.ini file if you have access to it) – for me it was 128M.

It took me a while longer to figure out that ANOTHER plug-in was lowering the limit I had set (XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 3.2.9 ) – for some reason that plug-in has a default “Try to increase the memory limit to:” set to 16M. Which I learned, here, is obscenely low.

So if you have that plug-in be sure to update the php memory limit there as well.

    Good luck!

    L

P.S. In the meantime, you may want to save a copy of your completed newsletter in Notepad (click on view html and copy that) so you don’t drive yourself nuts making the same newsletter over and over again. <– Been there and done that!! ; )

This morning it worked once. Then, five minutes later it didn’t for the rest of the day.
